Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav during an election rally in Udhampur, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His speech touched on various contentious issues, from religious sentiments to political integrity and regional promises.

Modi’s criticism centered on a viral video from September 2023 showing Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Yadav cooking mutton together during the holy month of ‘Sawan.’ He accused them of disregarding the sentiments of the majority and compared their actions to the tactics of the Mughals, suggesting they were deliberately trying to provoke the people.

He didn’t stop there, addressing another controversy involving Tejashwi Yadav’s video during Navratri, where non-veg food was consumed. Modi questioned the timing and criticized Yadav as a ‘seasonal sanatani,’ implying selective adherence to religious practices for political gain.

The Prime Minister also took aim at the Congress regarding the Ram Mandir issue in Ayodhya, asserting that the struggle for the temple predates BJP’s existence. He accused Congress leaders of neglecting religious heritage while living lavishly, contrasting their actions with the efforts to protect religious places from foreign invaders.

Switching gears to regional promises, Modi assured Jammu and Kashmir of regaining its statehood status and hinted at upcoming assembly elections. He portrayed himself as a visionary leader looking ahead to a brighter future for the region, promising increased autonomy and representation for the people.

Modi’s speech encapsulated the intense political atmosphere leading up to the elections, highlighting religious sensitivities, alleged political opportunism, and regional aspirations. It set the tone for a contentious campaign season, with parties vying for public support by addressing a spectrum of issues from national pride to regional development.
